Please Save a Life Today – Adopt a Shelter Pet. SS John Ericsson Whaleback Great Lakes Freighter. Never before available in 1/350 scale. Will require skills with Superglue, Soldering Gun, sanding, painting, PE brass & probably some putty work. Made in the USA. Some Custom Work may be required. The John Ericsson was a whaleback Great Lakes freighter designed by Captain A. McDougall and built-in Superior, Wisconsin in 1896. It was named after a friend of Captain McDougall’s who was the inventor of the first screw propeller. Its hull looks somewhat like a submarine and was designed so that the decks would be awash in rough seas. The John Ericsson was 396′ long with a 48′ beam and a draft of 21′. It displaced 3200 tons. This is a poured resin hull in 1 piece, solid resin. Thereby the bottom or keel may be a bit rough and may require some extra attention and work. It’s not a defect, it’s how the kit is and the only way to guarantee a clean appearance and fit for the upper half of the kit. Because these kits are handmade, they may require the molds to be recast at times. This item is in the category “Toys & Hobbies\Models & Kits\Boats & Ships”.
