FOR THE TRULY DISCRIMINATING COLLECTOR. THIS MODEL DEPICTS THE “OLYMPIC” IN HER POST-WORLD WAR 1 ERA (C 1920s). 1 OF JUST 6 PRODUCED BY MODEL SHIPMASTER. I purposely commissioned this model of the Olympic in her post-ww1 career to further set her apart from the many Titanic models on the market. CRAFTED OF COURSE IN HARDWOODS AND PLANK ON FRAME CONSTRUCTION. 36″ LONG, 4″ WIDE, 13 TALL (from bottom of plinth to top of mainmast). PHOTOS OF THIS MODEL ARE OF THE ACTUAL MODEL YOU WILL GET, NOT SOME PROTOTYPE! PLEASE SEE MY OTHER LISTINGS FOR 2 MORE IMPORTANT ITEMS OF THE “OLYMPIC”- A SUPERB OIL PAINTING AND A VERY RARE ORIGINAL 1920s INTERIORS BROCHURE! ITEM DESCRIPTION : This model was one in a series of the great ocean liners I commissioned from Model Shipmaster. These models were the realization of a lifelong dream to have large scale models of ships for my ocean liner collection. When I met the owner of Model Shipmaster back in 2006, we teamed up to create models that had never been made before. I was his technical advisor to make sure the models would be as accurate as possible. The results were, and are, stunning. Those are the models that flood the market today; in their own rights, they aren’t bad for the price, but they’re a completely different “animal” than the models I collaborated with Model Shipmaster on. Look at the photos, and compare to the lesser ones; starting with the hull- this model has the hull plating details instead of just flat hull sides; look at the steam pipes on each funnel, ours are proportionate; look at the masts; the cheaper models are way too thick; look at the lifeboats, big differences there; the funnels are more correct; the railings are more to scale; the windows are superior; on and on the list goes. Even the plinth is actual hardwood and more befitting a high quality model than the inexpensive composite plinths. Of course, there is a market for the inexpensive models; but you get what you pay for. I’ve always been a believer in if you’re going to do something, do it as well as you possibly can. I believe this model reflects that attention to detail and accuracy. You should check it out on their website. A footnote: Virtually all of the following models of great ocean liners were done originally for me by Model Shipmaster: Australis, Lurline/Matsonia, Bremen/Europa, (1929/30 Versions) Rex and Conte di Savoia, Ballin’s big three (Imperator, Vaterland, Bismarck and their later iterations), Aquitania, Queens Mary and Elizabeth, Normandie, Ile de France (50s) Liberte, Andrea Doria, and of course this model of the Olympic. We followed attention to detail, and I’m particularly proud of the differences we did to create accurate models of, for instance, the Bremen and Europa. For instance, the differences of the funnels, the forward superstructure windows, the stern shapes, etc. None of the mass-market Vietnamese models make these differences. They use their knockoff of our Bremen for BOTH and this is incorrect. On the Ile De France, the model I commissioned was for the post-war 50s Ile and sports the correct funnels and rear superstructure. I purposely commissioned a model of the Olympic in her post-ww1 career to further set her apart from the many Titanic models on the market.
