Launched in 1797, the U. Constitution earned her nickname “Old Ironsides” after a sailor saw a cannonball bounce off her hull. Resting in Boston Harbor, she is the oldest commissioned warship in the world. Mamoli’s kit was manufactured in Italy, using such fine woods as walnut, beechwood, tanganyka and mahogany. It has 32 burnished metal cannon and 20 carronades and three types of rope for the rigging. When completed the 1:93 scale model will measure 39″ long by 26″ high and would be considered museum quality. I started this model several years ago and the hull is partially complete as shown in the photos. You may have to file the metal gun ports or reposition them so that the second (outer layer of planks fits over them). All parts, instructions, the original box, etc. Are present and most of the small parts are still sealed in bags. The item “U. S. S. Constitution Wooden Ship Model Kit 193 C.
