On June 19, 1864, the rebel cruiser engaged the USS Kearsarge just outside the harbor in Cherbourg, France. A shell fired by Kearsarge tore open Alabamas hull and within an hour she was reduced to a sinking wreck. A French Navy mine hunter discovered her remains 120 years later. Mamoli’s kit is a masterpiece of detail, complete with double planked hull, wooden yards and masts, walnut blocks and deadeyes, authentic armament, silk-screened flags, cotton rigging and a rich assortment of fittings.
