Often referred to as one of the two “Holy Grail” space kits, the XSL-01 was produced in 1957, never to be released again. There’s the common “damaged mold” theory circulating out there but I tend to believe the kit was likely too cost prohibitive to reissue. The XSL-01 and the Revell Space Station were both designed by space scientist/engineer Ellwyn E. Angle of Systems Laboratories, Inc. The kit features a detailed, manned top stage w/full interior, removable top, opening hatch, crew members and ground crew with a detailed launch pad. All stages come apart to show all flight phases. The XSL-01 Operations Manual details its journey to the moon. This was my keeper/builder that I’m letting go to someone who will do the model justice with a good build. Kit is guaranteed complete as described here: the box, instructions, and decal sheet lack much to be desired. Again, this was my builder so I kept the lowest grade of all three. The box bottom is taped together because it was very brittle. The instruction sheet was so brittle it separated at the folds; not pretty but serves the purpose. We all know aftermarket decals are available. The only piece missing is one of the small, round windows; however, note the remaining 5 windows have old 60’s modeling glue on them. This old 60’s glue shows up a couple of other places but is minor, easy to clean and not damaging. I would use clear sheet here anyway.
